Humanitarian of the Year Award

Mary & Dan Berube

August 2003 Dan Berube accepted The Humanitarian of the Year Award on behalf of himself and his late wife Mary. The award was given by the Realtors Association of the State of Florida in Hollywood, Florida at the annual meeting of 1,200 realtors. It recognized their contribution to work related services in the community.

After benefitting from The Third Option program themselves, The Berubes went on to facilitate the program in Pensacola, Florida for over 11 years, helping numerous couples find better marriages. They also supported it with a website and presenting at the Smart Marriages Conferences in Denver and Orlando.

"Our involvement in The Third Option helped us to create a marriage that became near perfect," says Dan. They gained a deeper love and respect for each other and then shared that vision with others.

"As much as I championed The Third Option, Mary championed it more. She was a true believer. She shared the vision with other couples every chance she got. Mary walked the walk, every day with everyone," says Dan.

Mary died unexpectedly 1 year ago August. Dan says this award meant a great deal to him because it is the "fitting testimonial" to Mary's life. "She wasn't looking for awards," he says "But being recognized for her work with The Third Option would have pleased her greatly because it means the message gets out one more time."
